Ionization is when an atom or molecule gains or loses electrons to form ions. In the context of a gas, it refers to when gas atoms or molecules are ionized, often due to high temperatures or electric fields.
Ion: An atom or group of atoms that has gained or lost one or more electrons, thus acquiring a charge.
Plasma: A state of matter similar to gas in which a certain portion of particles are ionized.
Electron: A subatomic particle with a negative electric charge that orbits the nucleus of an atom.
