A region in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania that played a significant role in early American history, particularly during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.
French and Indian War: A conflict from 1754-1763 between Britain and France for control over North America, with many Native American tribes supporting each side.
American Revolution: The war from 1775-1783 in which thirteen British colonies won their independence from Great Britain and formed the United States.
Fort Duquesne: A fort established by the French in present-day Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War; it was later taken over by the British who renamed it Fort Pitt.
